NEW YORK - Barack Obama accuses Hillary Rodham Clinton of making an "unfortunate" remark about Martin Luther King Jr. She retorts that King's a hero to her — and no one should be thinking Obama is a new MLK.
Racial politics, quietly simmering for months, have burst into the open in the Democratic nomination fight between the woman who would be the first female president and the man who would be the first black. Will it make a difference to voters, black or white?
The first big test will be in the South Carolina primary a week from Saturday. It will be the first Democratic primary this year in a state with a substantial black population — as Michelle Obama declared over the weekend, "Ain't no black people in Iowa" — and the first in the South.
Why We Are Democrats
We are Democrats because we believe in helping those in need. We have a moral obligation to help those less fortunate. We are committed to expanding opportunity to every Mississippian.
We are Democrats because we believe in equality for all people, regardless of their race or religion.
We are Democrats because we fervently believe in tolerance. Tolerance is critical in our diverse society.
We are Democrats because we hold sacred freedom of the press, as well as free speech.
We are Democrats because we recognize that education is essential to the success of Mississippi’s youth. We support fully funding our education system and enacting important education reforms.
2007-2008 Club On The Move or Not?
Hey to anyone reading this, but it seems like there's been a decidedly un-aware MSU Dems club here.
Whats going on then? Any info on presidents or the such? How bout the 2008 election? MS-03 is wide open, and I would think Barbour's re-election should mean something to any of us who tailgate and see his cronies out and about.
Meetings? Punch and Pie?
The MSU College Democrats hopes that everyone had a fun and safe holiday. As the spring semester begins, we are looking forward to an exciting time for both state and national Democrats. We have taken back Congress and now is the time we look towards making greater strides within the state before taking back the presidency in '08. Here is a look at the topics for the spring '07 semester:
Energy
Homeland Security
Terrorism
Higher Education
Economy
Education
Health Care
Environment
LGBT Issues
Each topic will have at least one week devoted to it where we will discuss it in that week's meeting as well as provide information on campus.
