Nice to be represented by guys like this

From CNN:

"President Bush barely mentioned the war in Iraq when he met with Republican senators behind closed doors in the Capitol Thursday morning and was not asked about the course of the war, Sen. Trent Lott, R-Mississippi, said.

"No, none of that," Lott told reporters after the session when asked if the Iraq war was discussed. "You're the only ones who obsess on that. We don't and the real people out in the real world don't for the most part."

Lott went on to say he has difficulty understanding the motivations behind the violence in Iraq.

"It's hard for Americans, all of us, including me, to understand what's wrong with these people," he said. "Why do they kill people of other religions because of religion? Why do they hate the Israelis and despise their right to exist? Why do they hate each other? Why do Sunnis kill Shiites? How do they tell the difference? They all look the same to me."

-----------------------------------------------------------

So, not only is he a racist, but he's an idiot and the loss of American and Iraqi lives doesn't bother him much. I think someone needs to inform Mr. Lott that the war in iraq IS a big deal. So far 2700 troops are dead, with (I believe) over 20k injured, and he accuses the media of being obsessed with it? It's obvious that they aren't really concerned with what happens in Iraq. This 'do-nothing' congress has certainly lived up to its name. What is congress's job during a war? Oversight. There has been ZERO congressional oversight for this entire war, first time in American history. But I guess this is OK considering how well the war has gone...
Recently the Dems held some of their own oversight hearings with General John Batiste, which were very enlightening. However apparently using an Appropriations Committee room without consent of the GOP is an egregious breach of congressional rules. As a matter of fact, the GOP is so afraid of the truth being found out about the war they are jumping on the offensive about the hearing. None other than our boy Lott stood up against this: “They better stop this. This will be the last one or there will be retribution.” The Republicans are doing everything they can to hide the truth because it reflects poorly upon their party, and they know it will cost them in November. So what have we learned? Mr. Lott cares nothing about our troops, our friends and family members, sacrificing their limbs and lives. So, Mr. Lott I say to you, we are "obsessed" with this war, and anyone who is not is unpatriotic, misanthropic, and certainly not worthy of being one of our nation's leaders.

On his other comments, if he doesn't know why the Muslims have a problem with Israel, he needs to learn to read.
"Following World War II, the British withdrew from their mandate of Palestine, and the UN partitioned the area into Arab and Jewish states, an arrangement rejected by the Arabs. Subsequently, the Israelis defeated the Arabs in a series of wars without ending the deep tensions between the two sides." Straight from the cia factbook. Why do the Arabs have a problem with Israel? I guess we'll never know...

As for his comments on killing over religion, I have to somewhat agree. The situation is far deeper than he realizes, but its still a valid point. And for telling the difference between Sunni and Shiite muslims, well that would require knowing something about the country we invaded. I can't recall the source, but it was reported that just 6 weeks before the invasion it had to be explained to Bush that Iraq consisted of primarily 3 different sects of Islam, the Sunni, Shiites, and Kurds. So I'm guessing being able to distinguish sunni from shia names and clothing is out of the question. Sun Tzu would certainly not approve.

So, whenever he opens his mouth it seems something ignorant, egregiously inappropriate, or simply racist is all that he can produce. I guess the only way to be represented by a more offensive man would be to live in Virginia with George "Macaka" Allen (who has shown to be a racist, liar and ani-semite in this course of this election).

I think the war is not the solution of the problems. Basically a war is against the peace and the humanity. All of us has to stop this cruelty and try to create peace in the world. As a human being its our duty.

yea but im a whole, the war is not some big disaster, I mean just think we completely defeated the iraqi army in no time with minor casulties compared to other wars, and what you say we are loosing because terrorists use guerilla tactics, which is shoot an run, there is no way the insurgents could defeat our troops or the new iraqi army once it is fully constructed. The war is won and in a whole the U.S. will come out ahead because regardless how hard us dems try to get the troops out they will always be there, just like south korea, germany, and so on. We also must realize that we conquered a very wealthy country, so why not take advantage of the oil and benefits, I just dont understand why people want to pull the troops out. We have established democracy in the middle east, we have a foothold and you people want to pull the troops out of iraq, and if we do pull out of iraq then all of the bloodshed, work, and push for peace will go out the window,if democrats win this push for withdrawel the U.S. as a whole will suffer devastating consequences.
